Having dry hair can be a very frustrating thing to deal with, often a day to day challenge for those who have big voluminous curls. Luckily you are not alone, many women including women of colour have this problem. How exactly do we keep our hair moisturised and healthy.
There are many reasons this happens and lucky for you we are going to highlight why it happens and ways in which you can tackle them in this post.
Why does it happen?
It happens for many different reasons including your hair type, curl pattern, hair products you use, hair products you don't use and even the cold weather. There are many things that are out of our control i.e. or hair type, curl or pattern but by following a hair-type appropriate haircare routine we can lock in that moisture!
I'm sure many of you know already, curly hair types are prone to losing moisture and this is because of the shape and pattern of the curls. You may find that as your hair is curlier and more kinky, the more moisture you require.
How do I LOC- in that moisture?
Its all in the name, LOC. Its actually an abbreviation for the steps you can take to give your hair the best chance of retaining moisture.
- L- Liquid/ Leave- in Conditioner:
This is where you apply the moisture, leave in conditioners are great for this and they have a lightweight, watery consistency to really saturate the entire strands of your hair.
- O- Oil application:
You then add a thin layer of oil, because this really helps to by acting as a barrier preventing moisture- loss.
- C- Cream Application:
Here you can add a leave-in conditioner again as a cream, or use an alternative one. This last step is great for more curl definition as it has a lovely light creamy base.
We hope this post on how to LOC-in moisture was helpful. Please let us know if any of these tips work for you, we would love to hear about it!
See you in the next post,
